On this day 67 years ago, two Black couples were lynched in northern Georgia. One of the woman was 7 months pregnant and one of the men had just returned from fighting in World War II. Their names were Mae and George Dorsey and Dorothy and Roger Malcolm.

Apparently, Mr. Malcolm stabbed a White farmer in the days before. This information — added to the rumor that Mr. Dorsey was having an affair with a White woman — reportedly prompted at least 50 “high-standing” White residents to gun the two couples down with at least 60 bullets.

And while this case was just reopened in 2001, the men and women who were involved in the murders have never been brought to justice.

Sound familiar?

NewsOne fam, I want to apologize in advance if the below photo, which is a re-enactment (actual photos are in the post), offends you. While the subject matter is very upsetting, trying to sugarcoat these murders with a less upsetting photo just doesn’t do this tragedy justice.

Tell your kids and family members what happened to these two families. It is imperative that we know our history so that we can be empowered and control our future.
