.in recent days prominent health experts in China have claimed that this ‘virus’ originated elsewhere, like perhaps the U.S. They argue that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was introduced to China when 300 US military members arrived in the Wuhan region for the Military World Games in mid-October and infected the local population.
Zhao Lijian, a foreign ministry spokesman, made the assertion on Twitter late Thursday posting a video of the head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention testifying before Congress that some Americans who were believed to have died from the flu were posthumously (after the person’s death) diagnosed with the COVID-19 illness. He went on to argue that the virus may have originated at the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Ft. Detrick in Maryland, which was shut down in August after biosafety lapses with a number of pathogens. He says that the virus went from Ft. Detrick to e-cigarettes to Hawaii to Wuhan.
“CDC was caught on the spot. When did patient zero begin in the U.S? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals?” Zhao tweeted. “It might be the U.S army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Make public your data! The U.S owes us an explanation! “.
