ABOUT THE NATIVE AMERICAN CHEROKEE TRIBE
In the 19th century, historians recorded that the Cherokee tribe migrated south in ancient time from the Great Lakes region. The Cherokees were one of the native tribes that are culturally and technologically rich that’s why they were regarded as one of the “Five Civilized Tribes”. The tribe came from Iroquoian descent which eventually settled closer to the east coast. They embraced the culture that the white man brought to them by around 1800s by dressing up more European, and even adopted farming and building techniques.

The Cherokee Indians backed the British soldiers and assisted them in battle in the American Revolution by taking part in several attacks.

Fun Facts:
● Cherokees was one of the first tribes to become U.S. citizens.
● 314,000 members – the largest of the 566 federally recognized Native American tribes
● Instead of stereotypical tee pee, the Cherokee actually lived in cabins made of wood logs.
● Gold was discovered in their land, which prompted the overtaking of their homes in 1828.
